Garage Door Spring Replacement Cost in Florida

What goes into the cost of torsion and extension spring replacement in Florida, and the four factors that move the price.

Quick answer

The price depends on the spring system, the door's weight, the cycle rating you choose and whether anything else broke. Summit gives you a written price on site, free, before any work starts. See garage door spring repair for what the visit includes.

A broken spring is the single most common garage door repair we book, so it is also the price people ask about most. The honest answer depends on four things: the spring system, the door's weight, the cycle rating you choose, and whether anything else broke when the spring did.

Spring jobs we quote

The spring jobs we quote most — each priced in writing on site:

  • Torsion pair, standard 10,000-cycle
  • Torsion pair, high-cycle galvanised
  • Extension springs with safety cables
  • Extension-to-torsion conversion

After-hours dispatch adds a call-out premium — see emergency garage door repair.

Why two doors cost different amounts

  • Door weight. An insulated double door can need springs twice the wire size of a single uninsulated door.
  • Cycle rating. High-cycle springs cost more once and typically last about twice as long — read whether high-cycle springs are worth it.
  • Coastal specification. Galvanised or coated springs resist the salt air that shortens spring life near the coast.
  • Collateral damage. A spring that broke under load can take cables, drums or the opener gear with it.

Why springs are always replaced in pairs

Both springs on a door have done the same number of cycles. Replacing only the broken one leaves you with a second failure within months and an unbalanced door in the meantime, which wears the opener. Paying for the pair once is cheaper than two call-outs.

What a fair quote includes

A proper quote names the wire size and cycle rating, includes balancing the door afterwards, resetting the opener's force limits and a safety-reverse test. If any of that is missing, ask. More on the whole job in what to do when a garage door spring breaks.

Questions people also ask

Is it cheaper to replace one spring?
Marginally, once. The matching spring usually fails soon after, so you pay a second visit.
How long does spring replacement take?
About 60–90 minutes for a standard torsion pair, including balancing and testing.
Does a broken spring need emergency service?
Only if a vehicle is trapped or the door is stuck open. Otherwise a next-day slot at standard rates is fine — leave the door closed.
