Pick the drive for the door, not the price tag

Openers are sized by horsepower-equivalent force and by drive type, and the right combination depends on your door's weight, whether the garage shares a wall with a bedroom, and how much headroom the opening has. A half-horsepower chain drive on a heavy insulated double door will work and will die early. A belt drive under a bedroom is the difference between a household that hears the door and one that does not.

What we install

  • Belt drive — the quiet default for attached garages and rooms above
  • Chain drive — durable and economical for detached garages and heavy doors
  • Wall-mount / jackshaft — for cathedral ceilings, low headroom, storage lifts and car lifts
  • Smart Wi-Fi openers — app control, activity history, guest access and delivery integrations
  • Battery backup units — required on new residential installs and genuinely useful in outage season
  • Keypads, extra remotes, wall consoles and vehicle programming

Every install includes force and travel calibration, safety-reverse testing to current standards, sensor alignment and a walkthrough of the app and manual release.

Choosing

How to choose an opener

01

Door weight and size

Insulated and double doors need more force and a stronger drive than a single uninsulated panel door.

02

Noise tolerance

Belt drive, or wall-mount, if there is living space above or beside the garage.

03

Headroom

Low or cathedral ceilings, storage racks and car lifts point to a jackshaft wall-mount unit.

04

Outage resilience

Battery backup keeps the door working when the power is out — and is required on new residential installs.

05

Smart features

App control, activity log, timed close and guest codes are worth the small premium for most households.

06

Security standard

Rolling-code encryption on any current unit; avoid reusing very old fixed-code remotes.

Our process

What the visit looks like

01

Assess the door

Weight, balance and hardware condition — an opener will not fix a door that is out of balance.

02

Recommend and quote

Drive type, force class, backup and smart features, with a written installed price.

03

Install and program

Mounted, rails aligned, sensors set, remotes and keypad programmed, app and vehicle paired.

04

Test and hand over

Force, travel and safety reverse verified. We show you the manual release before we leave.

Pricing

What an installed opener costs

Installed pricing depends on the unit and the mounting situation more than anything else.

FactorWhy it matters
Drive typeChain, belt and wall-mount jackshaft units step up in price in that order.
Force classHeavier doors need a higher force class — and a unit that is not working at its limit lasts longer.
Battery backupStandard on the units we fit for residential installs; replacement batteries are a periodic consumable.
Smart featuresWi-Fi, camera and myQ-class features add a modest amount to the unit price.
Mounting workCathedral ceilings, header bracing and new power outlets add labour, quoted before install.
ExtrasAdditional remotes, exterior keypads, extra wall consoles and door-position sensors.

Every job is quoted in writing on site before work starts. Ranges given by phone are estimates until a technician sees the door.

Outage season and battery backup

Florida summers bring outages that last hours, sometimes days. An opener without battery backup means lifting an unbalanced door by hand at exactly the wrong moment. Every residential opener we install includes a compliant battery backup, and we show you how to test it — because a backup battery that has never been cycled is not a backup.

FAQ

Garage Door Opener Installation — questions we get asked

How long does an opener installation take?
A straightforward replacement takes about two hours including programming and safety testing. New wall-mount installs, new power outlets or header work take longer.
Belt drive or chain drive?
Belt for anything with living space above or beside the garage — the difference in noise is dramatic. Chain is fine, and slightly cheaper to run long-term, for detached garages.
Will a new opener work with my old remotes?
Generally no, and you should not want it to: current units use rolling-code encryption that fixed-code remotes cannot use. New remotes are included and we program your car's built-in buttons.
Do I need battery backup?
On a new residential installation in Florida, yes — and in practice you want it anyway. It is the difference between a working door and a manual lift during an outage.
Can you install an opener on a heavy wooden or full-view door?
Yes, with the correct force class and often with a wall-mount jackshaft unit. We check spring balance first; an under-sprung heavy door destroys openers.
Can you set up app control and share access?
Yes. We pair the unit to your Wi-Fi, install the app, walk you through guest access and activity history, and pair your vehicle if it has HomeLink.
