Quick answer
A garage door job usually carries three separate warranties: the manufacturer's on the door or opener, the parts warranty on springs and hardware, and the installer's labour warranty. Ask which is which before you book garage door installation or garage door opener installation.
"Lifetime warranty" appears on a lot of quotes. It rarely means what people assume. Here is how to read it.

The three warranties
- Manufacturer: covers defects in the door sections, finish or opener motor, often with different terms for each.
- Parts: covers springs, rollers and hardware — "lifetime" often means the part only, not the labour to fit it.
- Labour: the installer's promise on workmanship, usually one to several years.
What usually voids a warranty
- Impact damage and storm damage (an insurance matter)
- DIY adjustments to springs or tracks
- Corrosion from lack of maintenance
- Continuing to run a door after a known fault
